Letter from Santiago

Defying the machinations of discredited President Sebastian Piñera—who abruptly cancelled the Global Climate Summit in Santiago, Chile in reaction to the nationwide grassroots uprising that erupted here on October 18—an intrepid band of North and South American farmers, food activists and climate campaigners, under the banner of Regeneration International, came together in the Chilean capital of Santiago to share experiences and ideas, and to develop a common strategy for reversing global warming and resolving the other burning issues that are pressing down on us.

In his “Letter from Santiago,” Regeneration International Steering Committee member Ronnie Cummins describes the uprising he witnessed in the streets of Santiago, and outlines what farmers, citizens, investors and governments need to do—now—to avoid a total collapse of Earth’s ecosystem.

Small-But-Mighty Delegation Carries the Regeneration International Banner in Madrid 

Our Madrid delegation carried the Regeneration International banner at the official COP25 event, participating in official events, representing Regeneration International at the 4 per 1000 Initiative meeting and strengthening our network and partnerships. Though our Madrid delegation was small, Precious Phiri, steering committee member and director of our work in Africa, said it generated “amazing synergy” and was able to have a presence at all the right events and to serve as a bridge between the meetings in Chile and those in Madrid.

Constelación Semillas Agroecológicas (Constellation Agroecological Seeds), Merlo, Argentina

“It’s been a monumental year around here,” Alex Edleson said on the phone from his home in Argentina. He wasn’t kidding. This year Edleson and four co-workers launched Constelación Semillas Agroecológicas (Constellation Agroecological Seeds) in the small town of Merlo in the central Argentine province of San Luis. And in August Alex and his wife Belén welcomed their first child into the world, a daughter. Edleson spoke about his project at the Regeneration International General Assembly, in Santiago.

Carta desde Santiago: Regeneración ahora

Desafiando los planes maquiavélicos del desacreditado presidente Sebastián Piñera, que canceló abruptamente la Cumbre Mundial sobre el Clima en Santiago, Chile, en reacción a la revuelta popular a nivel nacional que estalló aquí el 18 de octubre, un grupo de intrépidos granjeros, activistas alimentarios y activistas climáticos de América del Norte y del Sur, bajo la bandera de Regeneration International, se reunieron en la capital chilena de Santiago para compartir experiencias e ideas, y para desarrollar una estrategia común para revertir el calentamiento global y resolver los otros problemas candentes que nos presionan.

En su "Carta desde Santiago", el miembro del Comité Directivo de Regeneration International, Ronnie Cummins, describe el levantamiento que presenció en las calles de Santiago y expone lo que los agricultores, ciudadanos, inversores y gobiernos deben hacer, ahora, para evitar un colapso total del ecosistema de la Tierra.

Una delegación pequeña pero poderosa lleva la Regeneración Internacional en Madrid.

Nuestra delegación en Madrid llevó el estandarte de Regeneration International en el evento oficial de la COP25, participando en eventos oficiales, representando a Regeneration International en la reunión de la Iniciativa 4 por 1000 y fortaleciendo nuestra red y asociaciones. Aunque nuestra delegación en Madrid era pequeña, Precious Phiri, miembro del comité directivo y directora de nuestro trabajo en África, dijo que generó una "sinergia asombrosa" pudo estar presente en los eventos claves y servir de puente entre las reuniones en Chile y las de Madrid.

"Este ha sido un año monumental para nosotros", dijo Alex Edleson por teléfono desde su casa en Argentina. No estaba bromeando. Este año, Edleson y cuatro compañeros de trabajo lanzaron el emprendimiento Constelación Semillas Agroecológicas en la ciudad de Merlo, ubicada en la provincia de San Luis, en la zona central de Argentina. También este año, en el mes de agosto, Alex y su esposa Belén dieron la bienvenida a su primer bebé al mundo, una hija. Edleson habló sobre su proyecto en la Asamblea General Internacional de Regeneración, en Santiago.
